Travel and Culture in Veneto
The morphology of the lagoon is really singular and needs to be discovered.
Inside the lagoon you can find either narrow coast strips of sediments, or some islands that you can visit and also some peculiar habitats that you can look closely at.
If you decide to navigate in the lagoon on a little boat, you will discover some natural environments full of piece and calmness. The most unpolluted areas are the ones of the northern lagoon, included between Torcello and Lio Piccolo, with their fishing valleys.
Navigating in the lagoon is possible, because every channel is indicated and practicable as far as Torcello otherwise, if you sail towards Cura and Santa Cristina islands, you have to be very careful, because the channels are not indicated.
Finally, if you want to look closely at the little egrets (Egretta garzetta), at the white egrets (Egretta alba), at the coots (Fulica atra) and at a great variety of other birds, you have to reach an area at the back of the mainland, called Millecampi Valley, that is situated in the southern part of the lagoon.
