Travel and Culture in Veneto
The art and history of Caorle are undoubtedly represented by its millenary Cathedral, with its majestic cylindric bell tower. The Cathedral was built in 1038 and it has preserved inside countless works of art of great value.
The heart of Caorle is Vescovado Square, that has been recently restored and that characterizes the town in a very precise way, thanks to the extension of the square’s pavement that has doubled its area.
We absolutely recommend you to see the remains of the Roman past of Caorle, among which the finding, happened in 1992, of a wreck that has been lying from more than two thousand years in the Adriatic sea: a ship laden with intact amphoras dated within the second and the first century B.C.
We suggest you to visit the “Casoni” too, some structures that date back to the second century A.D. and that are present in the lagoon. Today it is still possible to visit these rustic dwellings that preserve ancient objects inside.
