A few metres away from the villa of the great composer Giacomo Puccini, you can find Lake Massaciuccoli, a nature reserve for rare migratory birds, that is part of the Migliarino-S.Rossore Nature Park.

This park is the home of a great quantity of birds, among which: white herons (egrets), ash grey herons and stilts.
This basin has also got a rich and very coloured flora, with various types of plants.
An ecological navigation service suggests you some sightseeing trips to the lake and the marsh.
If you make a request in advance, it is possible to stop over in the old village Massaciuccoli, situated on the East side of the lake.
Here you can find the ruins of a Roman villa and of Roman baths called “Bucche di Nerone”. In this place, along the lake’s sides, it is possible to do birdwatching.
