Travel and Culture in Tuscany
Montepulciano is very rich in architectural works of great value and beauty.
Walking up to Piazza Grande, the highest part of the town, you meet the church St Maria dei Servi (16th century) that preserves, inside, the famous painting on wood by Duccio da Buoninsegna: the Madonna con Bambino (Virgin Mary and her Son).
Once you have reached Piazza Grande, you can appreciate the beautiful Palazzo Comunale (1300), built in Florentine style, Palazzo Contucci and Palazzo Tarugi, by Sangallo and, finally, the Duomo (the cathedral), which was planned by Taddeo di Bartolo.
We also advise you to visit Palazzo Ricci, by Perruzzi and, outside the city walls, the St Biagio Temple and the church St Maria delle Grazie.
