HISTORY

We can find the first traces of Manciano in a bill of sale of the Marquis Aldobrandeschi.

In 1400, Manciano was surrendered to the Siena Republic and, later on, in 1555, it was annexed to the Tuscan Grand Duchy.

It dates back to 973, that is the period when this family began to build the first walls of the town.

The fortress, instead, was raised in the highest part of the town in 1300 and keeps, still today, the name of the Aldobrandeschi family.

Then, in 1400, Manciano was surrendered to the Siena Republic and, later on, in 1555, it was annexed to the Tuscan Grand Duchy.

When Pietro Leopoldo made the Municipal Reform, Manciano proved to be one of the most important villages in the Grosseto Maremma, with its 700 inhabitants.
