GASTRONOMY

The gastronomy of the island is the meeting point and the synthesis of the various contacts among all the peoples that stayed here.

The gastronomy of the island is the meeting point and the synthesis of the various contacts among all the peoples that stayed here, of course.

It is a mixture of different and strong tastes, made of healthy and savoury dishes, where fish and vegetables dominate, accompanied by the delicious wines produced in this area.

Squids, cuttlefish, stockfish and rock fish are very used and are prepared in various ways.

We want to remind you also the refined taste of the wines produced on the Island of Elba, that was known ever since ancient times for its vine growing.

The typical dishes are: stoccafisso alla riese (based on stockfish, anchovies, onion, capers, tomatoes, basil and peppers, cooked for a long time into a terracotta pan), the polpo lesso (boiled octopus), the gurguglione (boiled vegetables, tossed in a frying pan with oil, salt, basil and parika) and the schiaccia briaca (a sweet based on a dry pastry of oriental origin, with raisin, the Aleatico wine from Elba - a red raisin wine – nuts and sugar).

We want to remind you also the refined taste of the wines produced on the Island of Elba, that was known ever since ancient times for its vine growing, also thanks to the witness left by Plinio il Vecchio, who defined Elba “the island that produces a lot of wine”.
