HISTORY

It seems that the name Chianti derives either from the latin verb “Clango” - to sound trumpets, or generally make noise - or else from the name of the noble Etruscan “Clante” family.

In the XIII cen. a district called Chianti existed, including the Thirds of Gaiole, Radda, Castellina.

The territory became the subject of lengthy disputes and wars between the Communes of Florence and Siena, which ended in 1555 when the city of the “Palio” was defeated.

Chianti is a place whose turbulent history has shaped a scene of utter tranquillity, a harmony of tame hills and gentle people.
