The Sicilian gastronomy is the result of the combination and interlacing of the different cultures that had passed by this land and also of the dominations, which the island underwent in the passing of time.

The first western cookbook, that has gone lost today, dated back to the 5th century B.C. and was written by the Syracusan Greek Miteco.

Already the Greeks exported olive oil, wheat, honey, cheese, fruit and vegetables from this land.

On the other hand, the Arabs introduced in the island oranges, lemons, aubergines, the sugar cane, the use of cinnamon, of candied fruit and rice, served with local ingredients, that have strong and genuine tastes.

So here, besides the typical Italian courses, you can enjoy numerous cookery specialities, based on local products, as swordfish, sardines, aubergines, ricotta, olives, capers, paprika and marzipan.
