Travel and Culture in Sicily
The gastronomy from Milazzo is rich of particular recipes and delicious dishes, especially fish-based, prepared in different ways.
Among the typical courses we recommend you the fish soups, the pasta with “nero di seppia” (dark of cuttlefish), several fished-based dishes prepared on the brazier or in a pan.
A typical dish from Milazzo is the “Pesce stocco alla messinese” or “Ghiotta bianca”, made with stoccafisso (cod), white olives, capers, parsley and garlic.
Among the typical sweets we advise you the well known “Cannoli siciliani” (pastry rolls with ricotta and candied), the sweets with almond’s pasta, ice-creams, sorbettos and the “Piparelli”, biscuits made with almonds and honey.
Among the wines, the white Mamertino of Milazzo is worth tasting: it can be combined with fish-based hors d’oeuvre and with white meat dishes too. The red Mamertino, instead, is best combined with dishes made with ragout or red meat.
