Travel and Culture in Sardinia
Posada had always been populated since the nuraghic period, thanks to its particular position and to the presence of its natural port.
The town Feronia probably existed in the Phoenician-Punic period and the built-up area of Porto Loguidonis was certainly present in the Roman period.
During the Middle Ages the Giudicale period was very important for this place. It was called in this way because of the presence of some Judges, whose role was born when the civil Sardinian power succeeded in getting rid of the foreigner rulers.
Fava Castle is a trace of this important political period because the Gallura Judges lived here, as well as Nino Visconti, who is celebrated by Dante.

Afer the Visconti, Posada was dominated by other houses, among which the one of Eleonora d’Arborea and later, under the Aragonese domination, the centre became a barony.
The decay of this centre began with the pirate raids, that led Posada to a slow degeneration.
In the structure of the centre town planning you can recognize two parts: the new one that was built in the postwar period and an old centre, connected to the medieval castle complex, built by the Pisans.
