NATURE

Cagliari extends on a territory made of hills, beaches and lagoons, among which you can enjoy the wide Poetto beach, a few minutes away from the town centre, with its fine and silky sand.
From the naturalistic point of view, you can visit the pool Molentargius and St Gilla lagoon, that are both near the town . These are two nature reserves where the flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber roseus), the stilt (Himantopus himantopus), the cattle egret (Ardeola ibis), the purple gallinule (Porphyrio porphyrio) and the marsh harrier (Circus aeruginosus) regularly build their nests.
The landscape in Cagliari is characterized by eight hills of calcareous rock, among which you can find Mount Urpinu, covered by a thick pinewood that is also the principal park of the town.
Then a new park of 25 hectares, with sports centres, meadows and an outdoor theatre is going to be opened soon on Mount Clarosta.
Finally, in the town centre, you can find the Botanical Gardens, with many rare species of plants as the “tree of fire”, a big variety of cactus plants and the gigantic ficus.
