The Sardinian cooking is simple and refined at the same time and Alghero adds the Catalan tradition to these features, too. Therefore you can taste different dishes in the typical restaurants: "Spaghetti ai ricci di mare" (spaghetti with sea urchins)and the dainty "Aragosta alla catalana" (lobster with tomatoes and onions).

The "Totanus espritz" (filled squids) is delicious too and so is the "Menjar blanc" cake, made with puff pastry, milk cream and lemon peels.

The vineyards of the Alghero area have given life to some of the most celebrated wines from Sardinia: dessert wines, white, red and rosé ones, as the Vermentino, the Canonau and others.

Then we suggest you to taste the Mirto liqueur (red or white) and the "seadas", the typical sweets based on cheese and honey.
