The first human settlement in Camerano, that is proved by documents, refers to the ancient population of the Piceni and dates back to the seventh/fourth centuries B.C. In the Middle Ages, after the Roman domination, the territory became part of the Byzantine possessions (eighth/ninth century) and Camerano was divided into different clerical possessions.

Between the thirteenth and the fifteenth century Camerano passed under the jurisdiction of Frederick II of Swebia and, in the sixteenth century, the village was recognized as “Ancona Castle”. From 1797 to 1798 it underwent the occupation by the Napoleonics and later, between 1815 and 1819, the village faced a period of deep famine.

Camerano was annexed to the Italian Kingdom thanks to the Piedmontese, in 1860, after the Battle of Castelfidardo.

At the beginning of the 20th century the handicraft activity started to develop and it characterizes, still today, the economic life and the history of Camerano. After the war and the German occupation in 1943, the village was set free by the allied troops in 1944.
