During the year Trieste presents a rich variety of events and exhibitions.
The sailing race "Barcolana" Autumn Cup takes place on every second Sunday of October. This is one of the most prestigious nautical exhibitions on an international level.
The concert and opera seasons of the town Trieste alternate in the historical Municipal Theatre "Giuseppe Verdi" from October to May and then, from July to August, the Theatre organizes the Operetta Festival.
Then the village fairs are also typical of the territory and they take place between May and September, as even the Majenka, which are celebrations organized in May for the spring’s arrival.
Some other important exhibitions are: the Latin American Cinema Festival, the Alpe Adria Cinema Festival (with unpublished films from the Central European area), the International Shortfilm Festival ("Maremetraggio") and the Science Fiction Festival ("Science Plus Fiction").
Particularly interesting is the celebration of the Carso Marriage, that takes place every two years in Monrupino.
The celebrations start one week before the wedding and include a farewell party to bachelorhood and spinsterhood, organized both for the bride and the bridegroom and that lasts until the marriage celebration on the next Sunday.
The participants wear the traditional costumes and form the bridal procession that gets to a little church, where the wedding service takes place and where the celebration goes on with music and dance until late at night.
