WHERE IS THE FRIULI VENEZIA-GIULIA?
The region Friuli Venezia Giulia is situated in the north-eastern
part of the Italian peninsula. It was formed in 1948, with the aggregation
of Friuli and Venezia Giulia.
It borders with Austria to the North and with Veneto to the West;
to the South it borders both with Veneto and Slovenia and it is
washed by the Adriatic Sea, while it is bounded by Slovenia to the
East.
It has been a region with special autonomy since 1964.
WHAT IS THE TERRITORY LIKE ?
The regional capital is Trieste and the most important towns are
Udine, Pordenone and Gorizia.
The 43% of the territory in Friuli is mountainous and the highest
peak is Mount Coglians, with its 2780 mt of height. The 38% of the
southern part is flat and the hills are present only in a small
percentage (19%).
The principal rivers are the Tagliamento and the Isonzo and the
most important lake is the Cavazzo.
HOW CAN YOU REACH IT ?
The reference for you to reach Friuli Venezia Giulia is certainly Trieste airport, in Ronchi dei Legionari, 18 Km from Trieste, that allows the links with the rest of Italy and with the biggest European towns.
Otherwise, if you prefer to travel by car, the reference for the
South and the North of Italy is the motorway A4 Torino Trieste (from
Trieste you can reach, always with the A4, Gorizia, too) that allows
you to reach Palmanova, Udine, Gemona and Tarvisio, thanks to the
junction with the A23, while the A28 will allow you to reach Portogruaro
and Pordenone.
The national railways cover the following sections: Trieste-Gorizia-Udine,
Udine-Cividale, Udine-Tarvisio, Udine-Palmanova-Cervignano-San Giorgio
di Nogaro and Udine-Venezia.

Friuli-Venezia Giulia offers to its visitors a changeable environment,
that ranges from the beautiful beaches situated on Grado Island
