The Old Town of Grado is, still today, the evidence of the structure that this city had in the Middle Ages, but the most ancient remnants date back to the Roman period, which the finds of the Epigraphic Museum of St Eufemia’s Basilica belong to.
The old town centre is closed to traffic and it is characterized by calli and campielli that make Grado resemble a small Venice.
The most important monuments are St Eufemia’s Basilica, built in 579 with its beautiful internal mosaic flooring, St Maria delle Grazie Basilica (second half of the fourth century) and the Roman Baptistery, a few metres from St Eufemia’s Basilica (the city cathedral).
We recommend you to visit, in the lagoon, Barbana Island, that is the seat of the famous Marian Sanctuary.
