Reggio Emilia: gastronomy-Body

The gastronomy from Reggio is extremely rich in tasty and savoury dishes, characterized by the use of typical products of this area, as the well-known Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and the savoury aromatic vinegar, that is patiently aged for a long time. Among the typical dishes we advice you to taste the Erbazzone (called scarpazzòun), a baked pie made with spinach, ricotta and Parmesan cheese, the Cappelletti (called caplét), made with home made pasta, stuffed with meat and Parmesan and then the excellent Tortelli di zucca, made with home made pasta and a filling based on pumpkin and macaroons.

Everything can be accompanied by a good sparkling wine, the Lambrusco, with a sweetish and pleasant taste, that is produced on the hills surrounding Reggio. Among the sweets we want to recommend you the very good Torta di riso (rice cake) and the Spongata reggiana di Brescello, a round and flat sweet, with a soft filling inside, that has a strong, spiced taste.
