Some important events are the the festival of the patron saint (St Prospero) that is held on 24th November and the Canossa commemoration. The Canossa exhibition wants to re-create the historical festival organized by Matilde di Canossa in consequence of the forgiveness obtained by Henry IV from Pope Gregory VII, in 1077.
The festival, in period costumes, includes sporting competitions and skill events among the different districts of Reggio. This festival takes place every first Sunday of September. Moreover, the festival reproposes the typical dishes of Countess Matilde, with recipes based on game, flat bread, fruits and sweets.
