Travel and Culture in Campania
The Calore Salernitano is one of the biggest consortium of communes in the mountain areas of Campania.
The complete expanse of this consortium is about 60.000 hectares, among which about 50.000 are situated right in mountain zones.
The whole area takes its name from the river Calore, that rises from the slopes of Mount Cervati and flows through the territory of many communes of this district.
The flow of this river, as far as Roccadaspide village, is meandering and spectacular, but then it becomes slower and more regular, when it gets into river Sele, after an about 63 km course.
The territory and the geographical characteristics of this zone are rather various: from the fertile Capaccio-Paestum plain, you can cross the mountain spurs in Roccadaspide and reach the beautiful hills with olive groves and vineyards in Castel San Lorenzo.
Finally, you reach Mount Cervati, which is the highest peak in Campania (about 1900 mt), without forgetting the vast hilly areas around it.
So, if you decide to visit this mountain consortium, you can plunge into a dimension where nature, art, traditions and history combine into a wonderful union. The Cilento National Park, the beechwoods of Salerno area, the Vallo di Diano, the laurel woods, Mount Cervati and the Getsemani hills are all green oasis that transform this area into a natural monument and a precious zone, which you can come in contact with.
