The Church of SS. Addolorata (Our Lady of Sorrows), which keeps the marble group of ‘Pietà’ inside itself, is one of the most important monuments in Soverato.
The councillor of Kingdom of Naples, Giovanni Martino d’Aquino, commissioned this sculpture, in 1521, to the artist Antonello Gagini.
In the old part of the town there is the full of charm ancient medieval small village, where there are still some ruins of the old built-up area destroyed by the earthquake of 1783.
Along the course of the Torrent Beltrame stands the imposing sixteenth-century monastery of Santa Maria della Pietà, still perfectly preserved, which is another important monument of Soverato.
Finally, if you wish to enjoy a special view, you can visit the modern church of S. Antonio da Padova (St. Anthony of Padua), situated on a panoramic position on the Gulf of Squillace.
