Moreover, in the various fairs celebrated in Salento, among the crowd and the market stalls, you can still find some people dancing the Pizzica, an ancient popular dance accompanied by the music of the typical Salento tambourines.

It seems that the origin of this dance is to be found in a sort of therapeutic ritual, that took place when somebody was bit by the tarantola, the wolf-spider.

The way to make these people feel better was that of playing and make them dance till they got well.
This folk dance was a way to express and free one’s own energy, a dance that relaxed and, still today, relaxes your body and your mind.
