In this part of South Italy, in Tropea (the pearl of Calabria), you can find the SADI Italian School, an Italian Language and Culture Centre, that wishes to enrich the already precious “Coast of the Gods” with the cultural exchange among people from other countries and wishes to transmit culture and century-old traditions, thanks to the teaching of the Italian language…

The school is situated in one of the most central areas of Tropea, in Libertà Street, 100 mt from the sea and 5 minutes from the old town centre, inside a modern palace. The school is extremely well equipped: 3 air-conditioned rooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 reception, 1 linguistic library, provided with an Italian language encyclopedia (for the most demanding students), visual dictionaries, 150 books of general culture that you can borrow and 1 TV multimedia system, with the possibility to watch DVD films in their original language.

The Method

The teaching method is based on the direct relationship between the teacher and the student, it takes into consideration the cultural background where every student comes from. The educational material is supported by the reading of original text aimed at the demands of every student and also supported by many simulations in real situations, beside it is used material taken from everyday life such as: newspaper articles, magazines, books, and varied material that the school select and propose based on the needs of the class, to improve phonetics and enrich vocabulary. The limited number of students (max 8 pro course) consent to focus on the inductive method and to perform the lessons completely in Italian language. The last of every lesson is 55 minutes. The first lessons aim to provide the student the necessary instruments to pass the first logistic difficulties in a foreign country. More and more we aim to pass these goals:

• Progressive development of the interactive and communicative ability (with the simulations and everyday reading of newspapers and magazines);
• Widening of many aspects of the Italian culture under the linguistic-historical-artistic and literary profile.

An evaluation test at the beginning of each course directed to know the language knowledge, will help to have homogeneous classes. Our teachers, all graduate and highly qualified, follow the students with seriousness and willingness. Our first goal is to promote thru the spread of the Italian language and culture a reciprocal exchange and cultural enrichment.

The choice of the course is the most important element of the stay.

Holiday Course
It is addressed to whom wants to have an approach to the language or whom already know Italian and just want to improve it. It doesn’t request much time and the student has more time to think about the holiday. The course is composed of 10 hours pro week. The lessons comprehend a linguistic/grammatical phase and a dialogical/conversational phase.

Standard Course
It is addressed to whom has desire to learn or improve the language reaching a good level of preparation, both spoken and written. The course is composed of 20 weekly hours with daily frequency from 9.30 to 13.30 with a maximum number of 8 students. It is focused on the basic acknowledgment of the language: grammar, essay, text analysis, speech, vocabulary.

Intensive Course
It is composed of 30 weekly hours with daily frequency from Monday to Saturday from 9.30 to 13.30 and from 19.00 to 21.00 with a number of maximum 8 students pro course. It is addressed to whom want to learn or improve the language.

Conversation Course (2 hours pro day for 5 days)
The lessons are given by highly qualified teacher and aim to improve the spoken Italian, preparing the student to deal with the everyday situations. The students work in pairs with frequent exchanges and train the language with the simulation of real situations. The maximum number of the students is of 6 people pro course to favor a quick and concrete learning.

Calabrian Tourist Guide (2 hours pro day for 5 days)
It is directed to the student who wish to learn Italian thru the history of Italy an Calabria. The lessons, exclusively in Italian, are directed to students who already have a good knowledge of the language and who have the goal to become tourist guide. The nominatives of all the people who will participate to this course will be point out to some national and international Tour operator agencies.

The teachers and the direction’s task is to help students settling in the social environment of the town. That is why the SADI Italian School organizes, every week, some group going out, excursions, feasts, parties on the beach … that are opportunities to make friends with a lot of people and practice what you have studied.
